Job summary

Chartwells Higher Education, part of Compass Group USA, seeks a Sustainability Manager for the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The role focuses on developing, implementing, and overseeing sustainable practices across campus dining operations to minimize environmental impact and optimize resource use.

You will lead initiatives, train staff, manage interns, and report KPIs to drive continuous improvement and align with social responsibility goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Sustainability, Business, or related field.
• Experience implementing sustainability programs, preferably in the food service industry.
• Strong understanding of environmental regulations and sustainability best practices.
• Excellent project management and communication skills.
• Good task management and organizational skills with ability to multitask.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Identify and implement initiatives to reduce environmental impact of food service operations.
• Evaluate and recommend sustainable sourcing practices for food and packaging materials.
• Oversee waste management programs including recycling and composting.
• Implement strategies to minimize food waste within operations.
• Develop and deliver training programs on sustainable practices.
• Foster a culture of sustainability through ongoing communications.
• Engage with the local community to promote sustainable practices.
• Participate in community events aligned with sustainability goals.
• Report on KPIs to measure initiative success.
• Regularly evaluate and adjust strategies based on metrics.
• Manage a team of sustainability interns for student engagement and reporting.
