Job summary

Towson University seeks a Confidential Survivor Advocate to provide trauma-informed, confidential support to students impacted by sexual and interpersonal violence. You will coordinate services, educate students about options, and work with campus partners to ensure continuity of care.

Reporting to SHWB leadership, you will develop safety plans, navigate resources, and promote survivor-centered practices across Counseling, Health, Title IX, and campus partners.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Women’s & Gender Studies, or related field.
  • Two years of professional survivor advocacy, victim services, case management, counseling support, or related direct service experience.
  • Must complete a nationally recognized 40-hour victim advocacy training within one year of hire.
  • Experience with trauma-informed, survivor-centered advocacy principles and practices.
  • Ability to interpret applicable laws, regulations, and university policies related to violence and survivor support.
  • Preferred: MSW or related masters and 3+ years in survivor advocacy in higher education, healthcare, or community settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential, trauma-informed advocacy, support, and crisis response for students affected by sexual violence, interpersonal violence, stalking, and related trauma.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify safety risks and ongoing service needs.
  • Assist students in developing safety plans and navigating campus/off-campus resources.
  • Educate students about rights, reporting options, and available resources.
  • Coordinate with university offices to support academic housing and other accommodations.
  • Accompany students to meetings and connect with community advocacy organizations as needed.
  • Maintain follow-up to ensure ongoing connection to services.
  • Develop and maintain coordinated support plans to promote continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to strengthen survivor-centered practices and prevention education.
  • Support program development, assessment, and reporting for Survivor Advocacy Services.
