Job summary

Union College in Schenectady, NY is seeking a licensed Journeyman Electrician to install, maintain, and repair campus electrical systems and equipment. The role requires performing routine and emergency work to support faculty, staff, and students.

The ideal candidate has 5 years of journeyman experience, strong reading of blueprints, and a solid grasp of NEC, NFPA, and OSHA safety standards. The position is full-time, in-person, with on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Requires a journeyman electrician with 5 years' experience in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
• Reading blueprints and one-line diagrams is required.
• Strong safety knowledge per NEC, NFPA, OSHA standards.
• Must be available for round-the-clock emergency response on or off campus.

Responsibilities

• Respond to campus electrical needs, emergencies, and special setups for faculty, staff, and students.
• Perform ballast/driver, switch/receptacle, and breaker/feeder replacements as needed.
• Maintain equipment and systems: emergency lighting, switchgear, VFDs, MCCs, transformers, battery backup; perform monthly preventive maintenance.
• Plan and lay out work from blueprints; collaborate with team and lead by example; install lighting retrofits and EV chargers.
