Job summary

Barnes & Noble College seeks a Department Manager to lead an assigned store department, delivering engaging retail experiences for students, faculty, and campus partners. This hands-on leadership role combines sales accountability, merchandising, inventory control, and staff development to drive excellent customer service and store performance.

You’ll work a flexible schedule including evenings and peak periods, partner with store leadership, and act as Manager-on-duty when needed.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of retail experience, including leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience with merchandising, inventory management, customer service, and sales performance.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak periods.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of an assigned department with a customer-first focus.
• Drive department performance through sales, inventory, and merchandising initiatives.
• Recruit, train, coach, and develop department team members.
• Partner with store leadership to execute company initiatives and operational priorities.
• Build relationships with customers and campus partners while resolving concerns professionally.
