Hudson Valley Community College seeks a dedicated Campus Security Officer to join the Public Safety team at the Massry Center in Albany, NY. The role requires vigilance, professional conduct, and the ability to respond to incidents, manage traffic, and protect people and property on campus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in a related security position or an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
• Possession of a valid New York State Driver License and completion of 8-hour and 16-hour security guard courses.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States and meet residency requirements.

Responsibilities

• Control and direct traffic on campus roadways and parking lots.
• Patrol the campus on foot or in a patrol vehicle to protect people and property.
• Investigate complaints and respond to emergencies as assigned.
• Enforce campus rules, safety regulations, and parking regulations.
• Maintain records and prepare oral, written, and computer reports.

Residency Requirements: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months prior to appointment. Preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months prior to appointment.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or possession of a High School Equivalency and two years of experience in a related security position or an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university. Possession of a valid New York State Driver License. Completion of the 8-hour and 16-hour security guard courses mandated by New York State to be licensed before assignment.

Duties and/or Essential Responsibilities: Work is performed under general direction from the Director of Public Safety with considerable leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments in accordance with defined procedures.

The Campus Security Officer will report to the Director of Public Safety and perform the following duties:

• Control and direct traffic on campus roadways and parking lots.
• Patrol the campus on foot or in patrol vehicle to protect people and property, maintain order and ensure compliance with college rules and regulations.
• Investigate complaints received personally or as assigned by supervisor.
• Investigate motor vehicle accidents on campus.
• Enforce traffic and parking regulations.
• Supervise Security Guards on routine duties and at special events.
• Summon local police, fire departments and ambulance services in cases of law violation, fire or other emergencies.
• Enforce compliance with fire and safety regulations.
• Respond to Medical emergencies and aid based on level of training.
• Give information and directions to students and visitors.
• Keep records and make oral, computer, and written reports.
• Operate radio, telephone, computer, and other dispatching equipment.
• Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the Director of Public Safety.

The hourly rate for this position is $25.7616. Position is located at the Massry Center, Albany NY
