Job summary

Patrick & Henry Community College is seeking a Security Officer I to perform security and maintenance tasks across the Martinsville campus. The role requires walking patrols and adherence to the posted schedule, including evening hours.

Work involves responding to incidents, preparing reports, locking/unlocking buildings, and coordinating with campus police and facilities staff to keep the campus safe.

Qualifications

• Education, training, and/or work experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Basic knowledge of PC skills, email, and record keeping
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Virginia driver’s license, as well as basic first aid, adult and child CPR/AED.

Responsibilities

• Ensure campus security and safety and provides an official presence.
• Makes periodic security checks for illegal entry, damage/loss, fire, and proper functioning of utilities and equipment.
• Provides extra patrols both on foot and in the Security Vehicle and does extra searches with the camera system.
• Is courteous in dealing with students, college personnel and visiting public.
• Complete written reports of routine and unusual events.
• Ensure doors are locked and unlocked according to established schedules.
• Control and monitor visitors and crowds to prevent acts of vandalism, theft, and misconduct.
• Inspect premises for unauthorized persons, safety and fire hazards, and unsafe conditions.
