Patrick & Henry Community College in Martinsville is seeking a part-time Security Officer to help keep the campus safe. You will perform security patrols, monitor facilities, and respond to incidents in coordination with the college Police Department.

Strong observation, clear reporting, and courteous communication with students and staff are essential. The role requires a high school diploma, valid driver's license, basic first aid and CPR/AED, and the ability to work evening shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic knowledge of PC skills, email, and record keeping.
• Valid Virginia driver's license required or able to obtain.
• Basic first aid and CPR/AED certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure campus security and safety and provides an official presence.
• Makes periodic security checks for entry, damage, fire, and utilities.
• Performs patrols on foot and in the Security Vehicle; uses the camera system.
• Be courteous to students, staff, and visitors.
• Complete written reports of routine and unusual events.
• Ensure doors are locked per established schedules.
• Monitor visitors and crowds to prevent vandalism, theft, and misconduct.
• Inspect premises for hazards and unsafe conditions.
• Request assistance when needed and report emergencies.
• Answer questions and give directions to students and staff.
• Ticket improperly parked vehicles and investigate accidents.
• Monitor climate control and lighting; perform minor maintenance.
• Deliver deposits, pick up supplies, and run errands; sort mail.
• Schedule college vehicles for maintenance; ensure good condition.
• Log mail between Martinsville locations and during duty hours.
• Coordinate with Police Chief on state shelter readiness.
• Complete annual training including Sexual Misconduct and Victim Rights.
