Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers protects the William & Mary Virginia Institute of Marine Science Gloucester Point Campus, reporting to the Security Officer. The role includes routine patrols, access control, response to alarms, escort services, and support for events and after-hours operations, with shifts that may vary.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and prior security experience; strong customer service and situational awareness are essential.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent required.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Experience in a security position or related field preferred.
• Ability to follow established security procedures and plans.
• Commitment to customer service and campus safety.

Responsibilities

• Monitor campus buildings and grounds for safety and report suspicious activity.
• Conduct routine inspections and patrol designated areas.
• Support building security through patrols and controlled access.
• Provide escort services and assist with parking enforcement.
• Respond to fire alarms and security needs; maintain security posts.
• Document patrols and communicate concerns to Security Supervisor.
