Job summary

The Security Officer I at UWM plays a pivotal role in our layered approach to campus security, controlling access to our campus space and providing elite service to our fellow team members, clients, and guests.

You will work shifts, verify badges, respond to incidents, and de-escalate situations while upholding policies. A High School Diploma and valid driver’s license are required; CPR is a plus and prior security or military experience is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Ability to work shifts: 5am-2pm, 7am-4pm, or 1pm-10pm.
• High School Diploma.
• Active and valid driver's license.
• Meet physical needs of the job.
• Demonstrate moral fitness and ethical standards.
• Outstanding verbal and nonverbal communication skills with a focus on de-escalation.
• Demonstrated ability to write incident reports.
• Demonstrated ability make independent and sound decisions under stress while adhering to established policies and procedures.
• Nice to have: CPR certified.
• Nice to have: Prior security experience.
• Nice to have: Previous military or law enforcement experience.

Responsibilities

• Controls access to our campus space by verifying badges and issuing badges.
• Monitors cameras to proactively protect our space.
• Uses Metal Detectors to screen for weapons.
• Uses common computer programs such as Outlook, Excel, and the Internet to complete tasks.
• Conducts patrols and provides services to team members both on foot and in a vehicle.
• Communicates with fellow team members to identify and respond to several types of non-emergency and emergency situations with a focus on de-escalation.
• Identifies and report hazards.
• Responds to and appropriately documents security related incidents around campus.
