Vanderbilt University Public Safety seeks a Safety & Security Specialist to maintain a welcoming, vigilant presence across campus and medical center environments. Responsibilities include operating weapon detection equipment, screening individuals, patrolling facilities, and supporting traffic and emergency responses.

The role requires clear communication, professional customer service, and adherence to security protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
• Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation and drug screening in accordance with university and departmental standards.
• Completion of VUPS training within 30 days of hire is required, including: De-escalation techniques, Pressure Point Control Tactics, ASP Baton and pepper spray (or similar), CPR and AED certification, Security officer training.

Responsabilités

• Serve the community through proactive security post assignments or patrol functions.
• Monitor the weapon detector checkpoint and ensure accurate scanning of individuals.
• Assist visitors and staff, providing guidance as they pass through security checkpoints.
• Respond to non-police emergency calls and incidents, including alarms and hazards.
• Provide security for events such as athletic events, concerts, and commencements.
• Document incidents and prepare reports for non-criminal activities as assigned.
