Job summary

School District 233 is seeking a part-time School Safety and Security Officer to safeguard the school campus and protect students, staff, and visitors. Duties include securing entrances/exits, patrolling facilities, and coordinating with staff to ensure safety during the day and events outside normal hours.

The role requires a background in law enforcement or organizational security, strong communication skills, and the ability to enforce district policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or formal experience in law enforcement or organizational security.
• Ten (10) years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer in good standing, or ten (10) years active-duty military experience with qualification to carry a concealed firearm.
• Must possess and maintain a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
• Retired or active Law Enforcement in good standing OR holding current Illinois Retiree Officers Concealed Carry licenses.

Responsibilities

• Patrols and monitors assigned areas, including buildings, entrances, hallways, parking lots, and events.
• Directs students and guests to designated areas and ensures only authorized individuals enter buildings.
• Enforces policies and procedures established by the Board of Education and administration.
• Reports incidents using appropriate forms and notifies supervisor of disturbances.
• Operates school security vehicles for patrol and other assignments as needed.
• Secures access to buildings and offices and maintains security radios and equipment.
• Maintains radio communication with staff and security personnel.
• Works with Deans' Office to assist and supervise students and staff.
• Participates in trainings on school safety, crisis prevention and de-escalation.
• Supports in crisis and emergency situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
