The purpose of a Campus Safety Officer is to contribute to a safe and secure learning and working environment for all members of the Regis University Community, including guests and visitors. Major Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties
  1. Patrol campus buildings and grounds daily by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to identify safety and security issues.
  2. Respond as incident commander to emergencies, crimes, and incidents, coordinating with police, fire, EMTs, or internal departments as needed.
  3. Monitor safety concerns such as fire hazards, lighting, leaks, and equipment issues.
  4. Inspect campus buildings daily, including locking/unlocking doors and verifying authorized uses.
  5. Enforce University policies, student conduct regulations, and applicable laws; investigate incidents as necessary.
  6. Document incidents for administrative or legal action.
  7. Maintain communication with law enforcement and internal departments to exchange information.
  8. Ensure proper functioning of alarm and surveillance systems.
  9. Prepare incident reports and provide testimony as required.
  10. Participate in training and departmental meetings.
  11. Perform other duties to maintain campus safety and support the University mission.
  12. Assist stranded or locked vehicles, escort individuals, and provide security at events.
  13. Provide safety information and report maintenance issues.
  14. Deliver emergency messages and secure cash for events upon request.
  15. Open offices or rooms for authorized use.
  16. Conduct safety presentations and respond to visitor inquiries.
Decision Making

Officers handle physical risks and make decisions based on facts, experience, policies, and laws, including whether to contact emergency services, activate the EOC, or intervene in confrontations.

Scope of Authority

Officers have full decision-making authority on the Northwestern Denver Campus and may assist at extended campuses, ensuring timely responses to incidents.

Communications

Communicate with the campus community, law enforcement, and external agencies via various methods to respond to incidents and provide information.

Results of Actions

Judgment errors could impact safety, legal standing, or property. Responses involve managing criminal, safety, or equipment issues.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least 21 years old
  • One year of law enforcement, campus safety, or security experience, or equivalent education/experience
  • Successful criminal background check
  • Valid driver’s license and approval as an authorized driver
  • City and County of Denver Security Guard License, obtained prior to employment, with required documentation including security training, fitness certifications, ID, head-shot, employment letter, criminal and employment affidavits, and recent FBI background check.
