Job summary

UC Santa Barbara is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to develop and support the campus Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will lead safety training, risk-based inspections, incident investigations, and implement campus-wide safety systems to reduce injuries.

The role requires 1–3 years in safety programs, strong regulatory knowledge, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • 1-3 years developing, implementing, and/or managing safety programs or training.
  • Thorough knowledge of EH&S fields and related regulations.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills to manage projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, supports implementation of the campus Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conducts safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations with reporting and corrective actions.
  • Provides IIPP program training and monitors injury trends across the campus.
  • Maintains certifications necessary for program oversight and compliance.
