Job summary

Ocean County College is seeking a part-time Security Officer to enforce campus safety policies for students, employees, visitors, and facilities in Toms River, NJ.

The officer will patrol on foot or vehicle, monitor surveillance and fire alarms, document incidents, and coordinate with local police as needed. Candidates should have a high school diploma and relevant security experience, plus NJ driver’s license and SORA certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year security/military/law enforcement experience preferred.
• Complete Ocean County College training for First Aid, CPR and AED within 90 days.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and transport equipment.
• Valid New Jersey Driver's License in good standing.
• SORA certification required.
• Prior college/university security experience preferred.
• Graduation from an accredited police academy and Police Training Commission certification required.
• Ability to carry a firearm as an RPO.

Responsibilities

• Enforces College security policies for students, employees, vendors and visitors.
• Patrols campus by foot, bicycle, cart or car to deter crime and promote safety.
• Monitors surveillance cameras and fire alarm systems.
• Generates incident reports and communicates them to the Toms River Police Department.
• Inspects and secures facilities to detect hazards or irregularities.
• Escort students, staff and visitors as needed within policy.
• Work at all OCC facilities, including crowded or poorly ventilated areas.
• Participates in CSA compliance training and adheres to guidelines.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Proof of graduation from an accredited police academy and certification by the Police Training Commission of New Jersey

Security Officer Registration Act (SORA) certification

Certification and ability to carry a firearm as a Retired Police Officer (RPO)

New Jersey Driver's License in good standing

Complete OCC training program 90 days for First Aid/CPR/AED
