Job summary

Essex County College is seeking a Police Officer to safeguard campus properties, students, staff, and guests. You will patrol buildings and grounds, enforce state laws and college policies, respond to emergencies, and assist in investigations.

The role involves training, reporting to a supervisor, and potential supervision of security staff. A NJ PTC certification or NJ Basic Police Academy completion is required, with a valid NJ Driver’s License.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• NJ Police Training Commission certification or completion of NJ Basic Police Academy.
• Valid NJ Driver's License with good driving history.
• Pass background investigation and firearm qualification.
• Must be 21+ and a US citizen/permanent resident.

Responsibilities

• Protect life and property and enforce NJ laws and college policies.
• Patrol campus buildings, grounds, and surrounding areas.
• Respond to emergencies and incidents; assist police as needed.
• Investigate incidents and prepare detailed reports.
• Appear in court or hearings as required.
• Provide directions and information to guests and staff.
