Job summary

University Police at University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks a Community Service Officer to patrol campus, assist students and staff, and support safety operations. You will act as a visible, trusted presence in residence halls and throughout the university, contributing to a safe campus environment.

This full-time role requires flexible shifts, including overnights, weekends, and holidays. Prior security exposure is preferred but not required, with shift differential pay where applicable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Ability to use standard technology, communication tools, and equipment required for the role.
• Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirement.
• Ability to pass a background investigation and pre-placement physical exam.
• One year of security experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct foot and vehicle patrols in residence halls and surrounding areas, monitor behavior, secure buildings, and report disturbances.
• Respond to minor calls for assistance as assigned or until a police officer arrives.
• Assist students with accessing and navigating university resources.
• Help ensure building security through door access control and surveillance monitoring.
• Maintain order during special events.
