Job summary

University Police Department (UPD) at UNLV is seeking a Community Service Officer to provide security for NSHE campuses, including UNLV. The role includes monitoring, patrols, emergency response, and collaboration with university departments.

Applicants must meet basic education and exposure to public safety requirements. Position involves radio communications, potential evening/weekend shifts, and pre-employment screening.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work which included applying and implementing rules, regulations, or established policies.
• Pre-employment screening for controlled substances as part of Nevada public safety requirements.
• Some positions require evening, weekend, and/or holiday work.
• A valid driver’s license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
• Some positions require CPR certification at appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
• Some positions require first aid certification at appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide security for State buildings and grounds and protect buildings and occupants.
• Maintain security of assigned buildings and surrounding property by surveillance and checks.
• Enforce laws, rules, regulations, and policies; report injuries and incidents.
• Respond to emergencies, monitor radio traffic, and coordinate with police.
• Assist with checks of emergency call boxes and unlocks for authorized individuals.
• Engage with campus community and participate in outreach events.
