Job summary

OHSU is hiring a University Police Officer to safeguard the campus community, facilities, and visitors. You will carry out duties under supervision but also independently when required, upholding the university’s mission and policies.

The role emphasizes service, safety, and collaboration with DPS and external agencies. Applicants should meet DPSST requirements and be prepared for a structured hiring process.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and meet current DPSST standards.
• Eligible for DPSST Basic Police Officer certification within one year of employment.
• Successful completion of the Field Training and Evaluation Program.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills for dealing professionally with all customers and staff.
• Cultural competency and ability to relate to diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and make quick, sound decisions.
• Knowledge of Oregon Revised Statutes and Federal Law.
• Ability to follow OHSU policies and DPS procedures.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks within time constraints.
• Good written communication and ability to write detailed incident reports.

Responsibilities

• Respond to calls and investigate incidents to ensure safety.
• Patrol campus on foot, bicycle, or vehicle.
• Provide customer service to the OHSU community and visitors.
• Enforce university policies and laws; issue citations as needed.
• Develop community relations and offer bilingual support when needed.
• Prepare timely incident reports and maintain logs.
