Job summary

Mt. Hood Community College is hiring a full-time Public Safety Officer for the Gresham campus. This union-position role offers a clear career path for security professionals with DPSST-certified experience.

The position includes a strong benefits package and shift differentials under the collective bargaining agreement. Candidates will perform patrols, respond to emergencies, conduct investigations, and manage access control with reporting responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of qualifying experience in campus public safety, military police, corrections, law enforcement, police reserves, or a DPSST-certified armed/unarmed security position.
• Current driver license and insurance, plus ability to meet the college's vehicle-insurance requirements.
• Intermediate computer skills including word processing, email, and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of college property.
• Respond to disturbances, crimes, fires, medical emergencies, alarms, and potentially dangerous situations.
• Conduct preliminary investigations and interview witnesses and victims.
• Perform building and grounds security checks and provide authorized facility access.
• Serve as an initial on-scene incident commander during emergencies.
• Prepare incident, crime, medical, and other reports.
• Support access control, security-camera systems, emergency drills, and public-safety operations.
