Job summary

Central Piedmont Community College Police Department seeks a Police Sergeant to supervise a shift of campus officers, enforce policies, and coordinate patrols across multiple campuses. This role leads daily operations, ensures safety protocols, and supports professional development within a diverse, high-traffic college environment.

The Sergeant will mentor officers, coordinate emergencies, prepare reports, and promote community policing while complying with state and federal laws.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 5 years of law enforcement experience with leadership demonstrated.
• North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Certification (NCBLET) required.
• Valid and current driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily activities and officers, ensuring policy compliance.
• Conduct briefings, assign duties, and monitor performance.
• Provide coaching, feedback, and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Act as on-scene supervisor during emergencies and coordinate responses.
• Conduct regular campus patrols and maintain a visible presence.
• Respond to incidents, emergencies, and safety hazards.
• Lead incident responses and coordinate with senior leadership.
• Prepare, review, and maintain incident reports and logs.
• Assist in developing safety protocols and campus security measures.
• Support Clery Act compliance and incident reporting.
• Assist scheduling and coordinating officer training requirements.
• Evaluate officer performance and recommend development opportunities.
• Promote professional, customer-oriented service to students and staff.
• Build relationships to foster trust and community policing.
