Qualifications

• High School or GED is required.
• Completion of one year of satisfactory service, must be a Special Police Officer, have successfully completed the Campus Law Enforcement Academy (250 hours), or an equivalent law enforcement academy.
• Have no disciplinary actions in file with recommendation for termination.
• Must have average job knowledge and strong leadership abilities.
• Ability to provide effective written and oral communication.
• Strong knowledge of public safety standards, operations and systems.
• Excellent knowledge of police, administrative and patrol procedures.
• Must be able to generate confidence with the campus community, prospective students, families, donors and the public.
• Ability to translate knowledge and skills into actions.
• Ability to write informative reports, review and classify departmental incident reports.
• Ability to manage police records and reports.
• Possession of current and valid U.S. drivers license appropriate to the type of university vehicle and an acceptable MVR.

Responsibilities

• Provide faculty, staff and students with efficient protection and service.
• Supervise, coach and lead officers on duty in enforcing laws and university policies.
• Direct and mentor subordinates in campus policing operations.
• Supervise special assignments and details as required.
• Assist with training program development for department members.
• Review reports and ensure accuracy of daily logs.
• Attend leadership and patrol training to enhance supervisory skills.
• Maintain good relations with faculty, staff, students, the public, other agencies and officials.
• Promote friendliness, helpfulness and professionalism in duties.
• Ensure compliance with Vehicle Guidelines and annual MVR clearance.
