Edison State Community College invites qualified candidates to apply for the full-time position of Campus Police Officer. The officer performs a variety of tasks to ensure a safe working and educational environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, as well as safeguarding college assets. The role requires working with minimal supervision and effective interaction with internal and external customers.

Examples of Duties
Functional Responsibilities
- Promote lawful behavior and protect campus welfare by maintaining a visible presence.
- Respond as first responder to incidents, emergencies, injuries, and accidents.
- Perform foot and vehicle patrols to monitor behavior and security.
- Warn violators of infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying prohibited items.
- Prepare routine reports and perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide escorts for faculty, staff, students, and visitors as needed.
Monitor Physical Safety
- Secure buildings and property through patrols and surveillance.
- Use campus keys to control access to buildings and classrooms.
- Investigate suspicious behavior and report findings.
- Ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
- Monitor restricted areas for unauthorized access.
Campus Activity Patrol
- Ensure security of buildings, property, and equipment.
- Investigate disturbances, maintain order, and enforce regulations.
- Coordinate with emergency responders when necessary.
- Monitor parking areas and issue violations as needed.
- Carry and use approved firearms and force in accordance with department policy.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Personal Qualifications
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
- Calm and effective response in emergencies.
- Skills in building security procedures and problem detection.
- Proficiency with computers and office equipment.
- Current knowledge of law enforcement areas and equipment proficiency.
- Maintain CPR/AED/First Aid certification and other required certifications.
Experience and Educational Requirements
- Ohio Peace Officers Training Certification (counts as 6 months’ experience).
- Valid Ohio driver’s license and weapons qualification.
- High school diploma or GED, Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy completion, and ability to be appointed as an Ohio Police Officer.
Additional Information
Position may require annual or random drug screening and driver training. No supervisory responsibilities are specified.
