Job summary

Northeastern State University’s Tahlequah Campus is seeking a Communications Officer for the University Police Department. The position handles emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatches officers, operates the campus alert system, and monitors security cameras.

Ideal candidates hold a high school diploma, have some dispatch/public safety experience or an internship, and possess OLETS certification or commit to obtaining it within six months. Valid Oklahoma driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and perform basic math at a high school level.
• 1–2 years experience in a similar dispatch/public safety role or completed apprenticeship/internship.
• Must have OLETS certification or obtain it within first 6 months of service.

Responsibilities

• Receive requests for assistance by phone and in person; dispatch officers and other personnel.
• Operate Emergency Alert System and monitor security cameras and radios.
• Maintain logs and provide information to officers; use OLETS for records as needed.
• Coordinate with external public safety agencies as necessary; issue permits and logs.
• Perform related duties as required.
