Job summary

University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Plumber Pipefitter to install, repair, and maintain water, gas, waste piping, fixtures, and related equipment across RSSP facilities on the Berkeley campus.

The role requires a four-year apprenticeship or equivalent, journey-level experience, and the ability to read blueprints. The hourly rate is $73.25, with full-time status, UC benefits, on-site work, and on-call emergency availability.

Qualifications

• General pipe fitting using hand tools and joining methods.
• Interpret isometric drawings to fabricate/fit piping.
• Read and apply blueprints/drawings for jobs.
• Perform residential service calls (faucets, heaters, drains).
• Must have four-year apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
• Journey-level plumber/pipefitter for min 4 years.
• Know local/state plumbing codes and standards.
• Ability to read/interpret blueprints and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Install, alter, maintain, and repair plumbing systems in campus buildings.
• Plan methods and procedures for piping work (underground and high-rise).
• Prepare detailed drawings with measurements/materials from blueprints.
• Fabricate campus piping systems and components.
• Install/repair gas lines, water heating, sewers, vents, and acid-waste systems.
• Demonstrate proper joining of metals and materials.
• Communicate effectively with campus staff and managers.
• Complete assignments timely and reference drawings/notes as needed.
• Perform planned/emergency maintenance, tests, troubleshooting, and documentation.
