Job summary

University of California, Los Angeles is seeking a Journeyman Plumber to perform the full range of plumbing tasks across campus infrastructure, including heating, water, and drainage systems. Under the Plumbing Shop, you will inspect, repair, and modify piping, read blueprints, and ensure safe, efficient operation.

The role requires a certified 4-year plumbing apprenticeship or equivalent, and licenses/certifications in backflow, medical gas piping, and CA journeyman license.

Qualifications

  • Certified 4-year trade-related apprenticeship completed or equivalent experience and education.
  • Experience in domestic, industrial, commercial and/or process piping.
  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing trade materials, equipment, methods and tools.
  • Ability to test water, air and natural gas lines; hydrostatic or air tests.
  • Safe operation of plumbing tools including oxyacetylene torches and pipe threaders.
  • Strong reading and interpretation of technical specs, blueprints, and codes.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends and adapt to varying shifts.
  • Able to identify on-site issues and communicate with supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, repair, design, modify campus plumbing infrastructure and systems.
  • Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, valves, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage.
  • Perform backflow testing and ensure safe operation of systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints; develop layouts and estimates.
  • Operate and maintain plumbing tools; perform finish plumbing and trimming work.
  • Communicate job-related problems to supervision to resolve on-site concerns.
