Job summary

University of North Carolina Wilmington is seeking a Network Technician to support the campus network operations and assist in installing and upgrading network hardware and cabling. You’ll work with switches, routers, access points, and documentation to keep systems secure and reliable.

Responsibilities include maintaining configuration documentation, patching, and vulnerability remediation, with focus on availability, performance, and collaborative teamwork within IT Services.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Electronics, Networking Technology or a closely related degree, or graduation from high school and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Two years of experience in a network-related field.
• Hands-on experience installing, mounting, cabling, and maintaining inventory for network hardware, and documenting network configurations, diagrams, and baseline system settings
• Knowledge of network vulnerability remediation and basic security best practices (system logging, and monitoring)
• Basic understanding of or exposure to updating network switch firmware/operating systems; Cisco technologies.
• Ability to identify and recommend technical solutions that enhance network availability and performance
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

• The Network Technician addresses customers’ needs and supports the day-to-day operation of the campus network.
• This position will assist in the setup and installation of network hardware and software such as switches, routers, and access points and will assist in upgrading existing network systems.
• This position will assist in the planning and maintenance of campus network cabling infrastructure and will have a direct hand in the installation of new network gear in construction projects.
• This position will also assist in resolving routine network problems and maintaining the documentation and inventory of the campus networks.
• Other duties include: ensuring current configuration documentation exists for all critical systems; assisting in patching and vulnerability remediation of network systems according to standards
