Job summary

Des Moines Area Community College seeks a student mascot to embody Mac the Bear on the Boone Campus, promoting DMACC spirit at campus and athletics events and engaging with attendees, including children.

The role requires a current DMACC student (12+ credits), a GPA of 2.5+, and the ability to fit the mascot costume and manage the ~50 lb outfit for extended periods. 20 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• Must be a current, full‑time DMACC student taking at least 12 credits.
• Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
• Must be physically able to fit within the mascot costume size (ideal height between 5’7" and 6’2") and support the weight of the costume (approximately 50 lbs.).
• Must demonstrate enthusiasm and charisma, interpersonal and communication skills, reliability and professionalism, adaptability and problem-solving, and a genuine passion for DMACC.

Responsibilities

• Support Student Life and promote DMACC spirit by embodying the lively and friendly persona of Mac the Bear.
• Enhance the experience at campus and DMACC Athletics events and foster a welcoming atmosphere for all attendees, including children.
• Perform as Mac the Bear or assist mascot performance, interact with audiences, wear and maintain the costume, engage crowds, represent DMACC, and support other departments as assigned.
