Job summary

Dillard University is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to perform repairs across painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC tasks on campus buildings. The role requires practical skills, safety awareness, and the ability to respond to emergencies while maintaining facilities and logs.

Candidates should have a high school diploma (trade training preferred) and at least 1 year of general maintenance experience.

Qualifications

  • Essential Personnel: may be required to report for emergencies.
  • Strong knowledge of tools, power tools, and equipment for general maintenance.
  • Knowledge: carpentry, electrical, HVAC, painting/plastering, plumbing, and general maintenance.
  • Ability to perform minor electrical and plumbing work.
  • Must have physical endurance to move around campus for tasks.
  • Self-motivated with initiative to start and complete tasks.
  • Familiar with safety requirements and precautions.
  • Detail-oriented with good troubleshooting skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with diverse populations.
  • Willing to respond to emergencies outside normal hours.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, or extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Process and respond to maintenance requests for assigned buildings in a timely manner.
  • Escalate requests to appropriate maintenance specialization (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.).
  • Keep assigned areas neat, clean, and orderly (lounges, elevators, restrooms, laundry, common areas).
  • Repair or replace plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, doors, windows, and related hardware.
  • Patch, paint, and finish various hard surfaces.
  • Conduct periodic facility inspections and resolve issues.
  • Assess damages and identify repair needs.
  • Respond to emergency needs within designated time frames.
  • Assist occupants with non-routine requests as needed.
  • Maintain logs and records as requested.
