Job summary

Cranbrook Educational Community is seeking an HVAC Manager to lead campus-wide HVAC and boiler operations, ensuring reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance. You will steer maintenance programs, manage budgets, and coordinate with capital projects and vendors to deliver high-quality service across the campus.

The role requires strong leadership, extensive HVAC/boiler expertise, and experience in a unionized environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum seven years of progressive HVAC and boiler operations experience.
• Minimum three years of supervisory experience.
• Low-pressure boiler operator license (or ability to obtain within first year).
• Certification in low- and high-pressure boiler systems.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Experience with CMMS and vendor management.
• Experience working in a unionized environment and OSHA/HAZMAT knowledge.
• Knowledge of building automation systems, including JCI Metasys or similar platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of all HVAC, boiler, and mechanical systems across campus.
• Coordinate and oversee work across facilities trades for efficiency and quality.
• Supervise facilities staff including scheduling and attendance.
• Ensure systems operate safely and comply with standards.
• Oversee vendor and contractor performance and project execution.
• Monitor system performance and identify efficiency improvements.
• Manage overtime processes per AFSCME agreement and budgets.
