Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Student Housing Maintenance Specialist to inspect residential and dining spaces, perform a range of trades from janitorial to carpentry, and respond to maintenance requests.

The role reports to the Assistant Director of Student Housing and Dining Facilities and requires a high school diploma with two years of related experience. Starting pay is $15.00 per hour, with a day shift and onsite work arrangement.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily upkeep, preservation, and restoration of student apartments, common areas, and dining venues.
• Respond to maintenance requests as assigned.
• Maintain furniture in residential and dining spaces.
• Assist in removal, relocation, and repair of furniture as needed.
• Perform basic service and maintenance on small appliances; troubleshoot and determine replacement needs.
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities and report damage or needed repairs.
• Coordinate with leadership on special projects and preventive maintenance.
• Manage inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment; report deficiencies.
• Perform pest control solutions when necessary.
• Operate department vehicles safely and report maintenance needs.
• Use power tools and equipment with small engines/motors.
• Coordinate with outside vendors for custodial, furnishings, finishes, and construction projects.
• Respond to university emergencies and weather closures to protect facilities.
• Assist with preparations to reopen facilities after closure, including snow removal and start-up checks.
• Adhere to all safety procedures of the University and department.
• Assist in structural safety inspections.
• Maintain equipment and tools; participate in training sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
