Job summary

Kent ISD in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is seeking a Groundskeeper for a full-time, year-round role. The position maintains landscaping, paved areas, and grounds equipment across district properties, with snow/ice removal and IPM duties as needed.

You will operate and maintain mowing, trimming, irrigation, and related equipment, collaborating with the Lead Groundskeeper and maintenance team to support safety and readiness of exterior facilities.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of lawn care, landscaping, and plant maintenance techniques.
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
• Familiarity with irrigation systems and minor repair procedures.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned tasks.
• Awareness of safe chemical handling practices and basic IPM methods.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain landscaping, paved areas, and grounds equipment on district properties.
• Perform lawn mowing, trimming, planting, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, and general upkeep; assist IPM for turf and landscaped areas.
• Support pavement and concrete maintenance; assist in snow removal from paved areas.
• Assist with maintenance, inspection, and repair of irrigation systems and related equipment.
• Operate and maintain grounds equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and utility vehicles; perform minor repairs as needed.
• Work under direction of Lead Groundskeeper or Maintenance Supervisor with scheduled tasks; support seasonal staff and collaborate with custodial or maintenance teams.
• Follow OSHA/MIOSHA safety standards and district procedures; maintain logs and records.
