Job summary

Spokane Falls Community College is seeking a Grounds & Nursery Specialist 2 to oversee maintenance of campus grounds, nurseries, and landscapes, including irrigation systems and off-site locations. You will perform skilled gardening tasks under the supervision of the Grounds Supervisor and help ensure a healthy, attractive campus environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform grounds maintenance and operate related equipment.
• Ability to work both independently and as a team.
• Able to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Knowledge of grounds chemicals/fertilizers.
• One or more years of grounds maintenance, gardening, plant care, cultivation or landscape installation.
• Able to work alternate shifts.
• Must obtain a pesticide applicator license within five months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Apply pesticides and herbicides to flowers and shrubs and pre-emergent to grass.
• Seed, mow, sweep, fertilize, top dress, edge, and maintain lawns.
• Plant, transplant, trim, and water plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain sprinkler heads and irrigation lines.
• Prepare soil for planting, seed, sod, plants, trees, and shrubs.
• Clean, service, adjust, maintain, and repair tools and equipment.
• Operate a variety of powered equipment including weed trimmers and mowers.
