Job summary

Cal Poly is seeking a Gardening Specialist within Facilities Management and Development to perform specialized gardening tasks in high-visibility landscapes and in nursery operations. The role involves supporting landscape project planning, installations, and ongoing plant care, with responsibilities including directing student assistants and grounds staff.

Applicants should have two years of grounds experience, including irrigation-related work, and hold a California Commercial Applicator

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas, with at least one year in irrigation, pest control or nursery care.

Responsibilities

• Review landscape plans with project managers and contractors to ensure quality.
• Perform minor installations/renovations of landscape and turf areas using tools and equipment.
• Maintain grounds equipment and perform minor repairs as needed.
• Plan workdays and direct student assistants and Grounds workers when necessary.
• Monitor plants and beds for nutrient deficiencies and apply fertilizers as required.
