Job summary

Spring Arbor University is seeking a Maintenance/Grounds technician to oversee outdoor spaces and perform general maintenance on facilities and equipment across campus. The role includes horticulture tasks, irrigation management, basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and building systems support.

You will supervise student workers, coordinate with the Director of Physical Plant, and participate in snow removal and on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of landscaping tools, equipment and techniques to maintain a beautiful campus.
• Ability to read and understand technical manuals and drawings/blueprints.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance repairs.
• Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.
• Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or lead maintenance workers.
• Experience and knowledge of the use of hand, power and electrical tools.
• Operation of motor vehicles and machinery needed to perform job duties.
• Maintain needed certificates for the use of chemical products or specific job-related tasks.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Maintain the required license to operate a motor vehicle.
• Must be able to always work in a professional manner in a professional environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain outdoor grounds and campus appearance.
• Apply fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides as needed.
• Monitor irrigation systems.
• Plant and maintain flowers and flowerbeds across campus.
• Maintain ground-keeping equipment (Mowers, Trimmers, Blowers, and Power Tools).
• Manage student workers for daily groundskeeping.
• Assist with snow removal across campus.
• On-call as scheduled monthly by supervisor.
• Perform general maintenance repairs – inspect, troubleshoot, and repair as needed.
• Conduct preventative and/or routine maintenance as needed for SAU buildings and systems.
• Repair and install plumbing fixtures, drain lines and other related services.
• Perform drain cleaning services.
• Assist with the management of the HVAC automation system.
• Cleans and assists with the upkeep of the facilities, removes trash as needed.
• Assist with the moving of SAU office furniture, office equipment as needed.
• Communicates the need for supplies and materials to supervisor.
• Performs other related duties/services as assigned.
