Job summary

Chapman University is seeking a part-time, on-campus Business Operations Specialist (Temporary) to support the Fowler School of Engineering’s daily financial and business operations at the Main Campus in Orange, California.

Under supervision, you will manage financial processes, assist with budgets and employment transactions, and liaise with central offices to ensure compliance and timely resolutions. Normal hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (preferably accounting, finance, or business) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum four years of professional budgetary, administrative, accounting, and fiscal reconciliation experience.
• Experience in interpretation, application, and compliance with financial policies and regulations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to convey accurate information to diverse groups.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• PC proficiency; advanced Excel required.
• Ability to learn enterprise systems and applications.

Responsibilities

• Manage the school’s financial processes, improve accountability, control expenses, and monitor financial activity.
• Generate biweekly and monthly reports, report variances, and ensure budget targets are met.
• Serve as a liaison to multiple university offices (Financial Services, Payroll, Purchasing, etc.).
• Review and monitor all financial transactions for compliance with policy and guidelines.
• Oversee travel, start-up packages, gifts, and awards; inform recipients of allocations.
• Provide training to staff on financial and business policies and deadlines.
• Guide staff on PeopleSoft Finance, Concur, PeopleAdmin, and shared systems.
• Collaborate with Sponsored Projects to resolve discrepancies.
