Job Description Summary

This is a 12‑month staff position overseeing the Campus Farm. The Program Coordinator manages animals, facilities, equipment, animal care, laboratory instruction, and farm operations.

Responsibilities

• Overall management of animals, facilities, and equipment on the campus farm.
• Provide high‑quality animal care and ensure animals are available for teaching and research.
• Assist with laboratory instruction and coordinate instructional schedules.
• Supervise the Assistant Coordinator, staff, and student farm labor.
• Maintain communication and working relationships with other UMCP farm facilities, locations, managers, AGNR faculty and staff.
• Handle routine repair and maintenance of facilities, farm equipment, and vehicles.
• Maintain accurate animal health records and SOPs per IACUC teaching and use protocols.
• Plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate daily operations supporting teaching, research, and outreach.
• Exercise independent judgement in resource allocation and resolving operational issues.
• Recruit, onboard, train, coach, evaluate performance of staff and student employees.
• Ensure compliance with university policies, IACUC protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Facilitate the instruction of courses and animal laboratory sections.
• Serve as primary liaison with faculty, researchers, students, university farm managers, and external visitors.
• Monitor operational supply needs, recommend purchases, and coordinate resource utilization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• One year of agricultural, animal handling, animal feeding, and general animal care experience.
• Knowledge of animal handling, feeding, and general care, and farm equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
• Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in animal sciences.
• Previous supervisory experience.

Physical Demands

Can lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, work outdoors often under varying weather conditions, and be exposed to allergens such as animal dander, dust, mold, and grass.
