Job summary

San Diego State University is seeking a dependable Facilities Worker I to support maintenance, repair, and operation of campus buildings and infrastructure. This role performs preventive maintenance, semi-skilled repairs, and general facilities support to help ensure safe and reliable campus operations.

The position is full-time, non-exempt, with standard SDSU hours Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on campus in San Diego.

Qualifications

Basic familiarity with building mechanical equipment and preventive maintenance tasks (air handlers, fans, pumps, belts, valves).
Ability to support mechanical maintenance without performing journey-level HVAC/electrical work.
Experience assisting journey-level mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, or facilities trades staff.
Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work orders.
Willingness to perform regulated-materials work if properly trained.
Two years of semi-skilled facilities maintenance or related work (may substitute with tech school).
Experience with preventive maintenance in large multi-building environments preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections, minor adjustments, and equipment checks on campus systems.
Identify leaks, wear, damage, safety concerns, and maintenance needs; report accordingly.
Document work performed, materials, labor, and conditions in CMMS.
Assist journey-level trades staff with maintenance, repairs, renovations, and events.
Provide materials, access, setup, cleanup, and project support as needed.
Respond to work orders, trouble calls, and urgent maintenance within scope of position.
