Job summary

Charleston Southern University is seeking an entry-level Maintenance Technician Level 1 to support campus facilities. The role focuses on routine maintenance, inspections, and safe operation of building systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in maintenance, building trades, or a related field is a plus.
• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment safely.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to performing tasks accurately and efficiently.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with routine maintenance tasks, such as inspections, cleaning, and lubrication of equipment.
• Performing minor repairs and adjustments to building systems, fixtures, and equipment under the guidance of more experienced technicians.
• Assist with the installation and setup of new equipment, fixtures, and furnishings as needed.
• Conduct basic troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to identify and report issues to supervisors.
• Participating in training programs and on-the-job learning opportunities to develop technical skills and knowledge of maintenance practices.
• Following safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
• Maintaining cleanliness and organization in work areas and storage areas for tools and equipment.
• Assisting with maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and inventory levels.
• Collaborating with team members and other departments to support maintenance projects and campus operations.
• Other duties as assigned.
