Job summary

The University of New Haven is seeking a licensed skilled tradesperson for essential facilities maintenance on the West Haven campus. You will install, operate, maintain, inspect, monitor, service and repair mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and structural systems while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Independence, problem-solving, and accurate documentation of work orders are required. Overtime, on-call duties, and event support are expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have CT state licensing requirements in one or more of the E-, S-, P- designations.
• Minimum of three years general maintenance mechanic experience.
• Must be able to drive and hold a CT state driver’s license.
• Strong knowledge of residential and commercial building systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs highly skilled work on mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and structural systems.
• Interpret building codes, drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Monitor campus equipment status and respond to alarms using BMS and manual checks.
• Identify root causes and perform required repairs with hand and power tools.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and document status of work orders.
• Develop and perform preventative maintenance on buildings, equipment and tools.
• Follow safety rules and use PPE; be on call for emergencies when required.
• Maintain neat work area and professional appearance.
