Job summary

The University of St. Thomas seeks an Assistant Director of Facilities Maintenance to coordinate, execute, and oversee daily maintenance across the campus’ building systems. The role ensures reliable performance, regulatory compliance, and efficient work delivery by in-house staff and selected contractors across electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and locksmith tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in facilities-related field.
• 5+ years of progressive facilities maintenance experience in institutional/commercial environments.
• Strong knowledge of building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety).
• Experience with CMMS platforms and maintenance documentation systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily maintenance and repair operations across mechanical, electrical, carpentry, painting, and locksmith services.
• Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance program for building systems and infrastructure.
• Manage small to mid-scale maintenance projects, renovations, and capital renewal documentation.
• Ensure life-safety, fire protection, and compliance with NFPA/OSHA standards and codes.
• Utilize CMMS to track work orders, assets, and documentation; provide reporting to leadership.
• Provide operational support to the Director and serve as backup when needed.
• Develop staff through training and performance coaching; promote teamwork and safety.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies and participate in on-call rotations.
• Other duties as assigned.
