Job summary

NC State University Facilities is seeking a Facilities Engineer in Raleigh to maintain and optimize campus systems, including chillers, boilers, AHUs, and air compressors, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation across buildings.

You will troubleshoot issues, manage multiple small projects, review drawings, develop basis-of-design documents, and coordinate with vendors and campus teams. A Bachelor's degree in engineering and a valid NC driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of building codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot facility and utility systems, investigate failures, and implement corrective actions.
• Provide engineering support for system operations, including performance testing and load calculations.
• Manage multiple small projects with priorities, schedules, and deliverables.
• Develop concepts and basis-of-design documents with scopes of work, approaches, and cost estimates.
• Review equipment specs, drawings, and submittals for compliance with design requirements.
• Read P&IDs and maintain project documentation.
• Develop and review project drawings and technical documents throughout the lifecycle.
• Provide technical guidance during equipment procurement.
• Conduct field visits, inspections, and system start‑up activities to verify performance.
• Coordinate warranty activities with vendors and internal teams.
• Develop SOPs to promote safe and effective operation.
