Job summary

National Western Center is seeking a Building Engineer to oversee day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems across the campus in Denver, CO. You will proactively manage HVAC, plumbing and mechanical systems, ensuring safety, compliance, and energy efficiency while supporting a growing events hub and innovation campus.

You’ll join a small, nimble team and contribute to professional development as the campus evolves.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Building Systems, Facilities Management, or related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of relevant industry experience in operations and/or events.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a facility engineer position.
  • Experience with computer based operating and energy management systems.
  • Possess and maintain a valid universal CFC license.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Refrigeration or Boiler Operator license.
  • Forklift and Scissor Lift certifications or willingness to acquire within 60 days.
  • Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience using CMMS to manage work orders and inventory.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with energy management and monitor HVAC and mechanical systems for efficiency.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, inspect, and repair HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Complete Job Hazard Analysis, SOPs, and safety documentation.
  • Use CMMS to manage work orders, preventive maintenance, inventory, and records.
  • Respond to requests promptly and collaborate with internal teams and contractors.
  • Work indoors and outdoors, may require after-hours or on-call for emergencies.
  • Physical ability to lift, climb, and use ladders or scaffolding.
