Job summary

Brown University Providence, RI seeks a dining services supervisor to lead operations across multiple dining units, ensuring high standards of quality, customer service, and sanitation. You will oversee a team including union staff, students, and temporaries, manage labor needs, and support marketing efforts.

Responsibilities include training, coaching, and evaluating staff while maintaining safety standards and efficient cash/inventory controls.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of supervisory experience in a food service environment, and associate degree in HRI or related discipline.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean recent driving record.
• Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, Google platforms and experience with menu/inventory management system preferred.
• Experience with POS system.
• Culinary knowledge and/or experience.
• RI Food Safety Management License or Serv Safe equivalency; if not, candidate is required to obtain within one year of hire.
• Demonstrated high standards of quality and sanitation.
• Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and work independently.
• Ability to effectively work with a team.
• Sensitivity to a diverse population.
• Willingness to promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff (union, university students, temporary employee).
• Assist manager with defining labor needs and target hours.
• Check staff in, assign work, and replace vacancies.
• Train, direct, coach, counsel and evaluate staff.
• Ensure adherence to food safety guidelines and sanitation.
• Oversee cash and inventory control and security of facilities.
• Assist in marketing and merchandising products and services.
• Stay current with industry trends and participate in meetings and activities.
• Supervise Dining Units and multiple locations with collective sales around $30 million.
• Supervise up to 50 employees in a unit at a time.
