Job summary

Gatesville ISD maintains an open pool of applications for campus custodians in Gatesville, TX. Duties include cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures, with fingerprinting required by state law. This pool feeds future openings and reviews are conducted by the Maintenance Director and staff.

Job Description

Gatesville ISD keeps an open pool of applications for custodians on our website. Future openings will be filled from the pool of applicants. The applications are made available to the Maintenance Director for review, and will be kept on file for one year.

State law requires that all school employees must be fingerprinted.

Primary purpose is to maintain safe, clean, and attractive facilities.

Qualifications:

• Prior custodial experience preferred
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment
• Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

Duties:

• Demonstrate thoroughness, reliability, and a degree of accuracy in performing work assignments
• Work cooperatively and maintain positive attitudes in the work environment
• Have good attendance and use time productively on the job
• Follow District policies, rules and regulations
• Demonstrate courtesy and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors to the facility
• Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms
• Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean
• Assist with opening and closing building each school day
• Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities
• Use equipment and cleaning supplies properly and safely
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately
• Perform other duties that may be assigned by the building Principal, the building Head Custodian, or the Maintenance Director

Working Conditions:

This job will require working with hands, standing and walking for long periods, climbing, and heavy lifting and carrying. Exposure to damp conditions, hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and ladders. This job also requires using scrubber and burnisher, as well as bending, reaching and stooping.
