Job summary

Merrimack College is seeking a diligent Custodian to support custodial operations across campus. Responsibilities include general cleaning, trash disposal, special cleaning services, and assisting with events and emergencies.

A high school diploma is required, with preferred higher education experience and a valid driver’s license. This on-campus role emphasizes safety, reliability, and collaboration with custodial staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of custodial best practices, and operational efficiencies.
• Able to operate custodial equipment.
• Fluent in English language and able to communicate with others.
• Higher Education, or multi-building property management preferred.
• 3 years of experience in custodian/cleaning services is preferred
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform general custodial duties: sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, restocking supplies.
• Collect and dispose of interior and exterior trash and recycling.
• Perform specialized cleaning services: carpet extraction, window cleaning, floor care, stain removal.
• Respond to facility emergencies (water leaks, flooding, etc.).
• Transport custodial equipment and supplies between campus buildings as needed.
• Inspect and maintain custodial equipment and supplies for safe operation.
• Identify and report building maintenance issues observed during duties.
• Wear and use PPE as required.
• Perform minor repairs to address leaks or trip hazards.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas per OSHA/SDS requirements.
• Assist with snow and ice removal at entryways and sidewalks.
• Demonstrate reliability and attendance.
• Assist with campus events by setting up and breaking down furniture and monitoring spaces.
• Perform special projects as assigned.
