Job summary

Schoolcraft College in Michigan is seeking a Custodial position to maintain the cleanliness and safety of campus buildings and grounds, performing unskilled and semi-skilled cleaning and upkeep to ensure facilities are ready for daily use. This role includes event setups and routine cleaning across campus.

The work involves lifting up to 50 lbs repeatedly and up to 100 lbs occasionally; requires a valid Michigan driver’s license; 40 hours per week, with a pay rate of $19.76 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/ GED with a stable work or education history.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and order, keep materials and tools organized, and make judicious use of all resources including work time, equipment and materials.
• Valid Michigan Driver’s license and College approved driving record.
• Ability to prioritize and satisfy workload demands to fulfill supervisor’s instructions and customer needs.
• Effectively complete multiple, prioritized tasks and meet deadlines.
• Able to work alone or with others.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively and up to 100 lbs. occasionally and pass the Schoolcraft College pre-employment physical examination.

Responsibilities

• Cleans assigned area, including lobbies, floors, rugs and mats, corridors, stairways, railings, sills, windows, mirrors and door glass, restrooms and restrooms fixtures, walls, seating, furniture and fixtures.
• Operates power and non-power cleaning equipment and tools such as burnisher’s, scrubbers, rotary floor machines, carpet and furniture cleaning equipment, power washers; replenishes materials and supplies.
• Performs routine cleaning duties for assigned workstations or in multiple buildings as needed.
• Writes and submits work orders for needed repairs or project work.
• Performs stripping, waxing, and sealing of floor surfaces.
• Collects waste and recyclable materials daily; cleans and lines containers.
• Changes incandescent and fluorescent lights as necessary.
• Sweeps and shovels debris and/or snow from facility walkways, steps and sidewalks.
• Sets up furniture and equipment required for College functions as directed.
• Cares for tools and equipment.
• Will work interchangeably with Utility I, Culinary Sanitarian, and PE Attendant to complete cleaning and setups in campus buildings as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
