Job summary

Barnard College in New York seeks a Custodian for a Wednesday-Sunday 7:00 am–3:30 pm shift (RDO: Monday–Tuesday). The role involves cleaning restrooms, floors, walls and offices, moving supplies, and preparing residence halls for occupancy.

You will support events by arranging furniture and ensuring spaces are ready for use. Experience with cleaning equipment is preferred, and you must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of cleaning terms and safety procedures related to handling of cleaning chemicals, supplies and equipment.
• Able to prioritize workload and stay organized during busy periods.
• Ability to remain calm during events and transitions (e.g., Commencement, Opening, Closing).

Responsibilities

• Clean restrooms including floors, walls, tiles, ceiling, doors, vents, fixtures, mirrors and replenish supplies.
• Dispose of trash and recyclables from assigned areas.
• Move and transport custodial supplies, furniture and equipment as directed.
• Clean and maintain walls, floors, doors, frames and glass surfaces in student rooms, lounges, kitchens, bathrooms and offices.
• Set up and clean residential halls rooms and suites for academic year and summer preparation.
• Coordinate work between groups so rooms are cleaned and ready for fall students.
• Shovel snow and apply snow melt during snow events as directed.
• Comply with College policies and safety regulations.
