Job summary

Louisiana State University is seeking qualified Custodian 1 or 2 for Louise Garig Hall. You will maintain over 1,900,000 square feet across residence halls and student housing, performing routine cleaning, waste disposal, floor care, and equipment operation.

The role requires physical stamina and the ability to work with campus programs and events. Essential duties include cleaning public areas, handling waste, floor stripping and waxing, carpet care, exterior cleaning, and building security

Qualifications

• Must be capable of walking around a 10,000 square foot building multiple times daily.
• Able to ascend and descend the stairs of a 5-story building multiple times daily and stand for extended periods.
• Capable of moving furniture weighing 20 to 40 lbs and transporting cleaning carts and equipment.
• Pre-employment physical examination required.
• Background check required.
• Essential position and may be required to report to campus during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• 30% cleans residence hall lobbies, bathrooms, hallways and other assigned areas with sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting and polishing.
• 20% empties trash and recycling; disposes of waste and may handle bio-hazardous waste; ensures proper recycling.
• 10% cleans, strips, waxes and polishes floors using appropriate chemicals and machines.
• 10% operates wet/dry vacuums, carpet extractors and related equipment for cleaning.
• 10% washes exteriors, windows, walls and fixtures using power washers or related tools.
• 10% unlocks/locks buildings; moves furniture and supports events with setup.
• 5% performs additional custodial tasks; reports safety hazards; maintains equipment.
• 5% completes miscellaneous custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
