Job summary

University of Illinois Springfield is seeking a Building Service Worker in Facilities and Services to perform custodial duties across campus. The role focuses on cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining interior and exterior spaces to high standards.

Under supervision, you will operate cleaning equipment and assist with setup for events, ensuring safety and efficiency. The position offers benefits eligibility and starts at $17.31 per hour for a 7.5 hour work day, with opportunities for advancement

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of cleaning solutions and custodial methods.
• Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, directions, labeling and measurements.
• Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to bend, stretch, twist, reach, and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to tolerate exposure to temperature extremes.
• Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Clean, disinfect, sanitize, and service restroom facilities and fixtures, including replenishing supplies.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors; move furniture as needed.
• Empty trash and manage recycling; replace liners as needed.
• Dust and clean furniture, windows, doors, and fixtures; perform dusting.
• Operate cleaning equipment (rotators, extractors, scrubbers, vacuums) as required.
• Assist with setup for events, projects, or remodeling; support other duties as assigned.
