Job summary

Vermont State Colleges System seeks a Custodial Supervisor to oversee daily custodial and housekeeping services on a campus. You will supervise staff, assign work, manage schedules, and ensure safety and budget adherence.

The role requires a High School diploma and 5–7 years in custodial work, with supervisory experience preferred. The position is on-site with occasional weekend/evening coverage and collaboration across campuses.

Qualifications

• High school education plus a minimum of five to seven years of relevant work experience (custodial or housekeeping) or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise and coordinate daily custodial/housekeeping services for a Vermont State University (VTSU) campus.
• Supervise custodial/housekeeping staff: interview, hire and train new employees; manage performance.
• Plan and issue daily work assignments; monitor work in progress and check completed work; assist staff with difficult or unusual tasks or problems.
• Plan for staffing needs and work schedules; review, coordinate and approve time off requests and timesheets as required.
• Ensure compliance with the applicable terms of the union contract covering the custodial staff’s terms of employment.
• Oversee the distribution of supplies and equipment; order and maintain appropriate inventories of all materials used.
• Ensures adherence to OSHA and HazMat procedures.
• Collaborates with custodial supervisors at other campuses to identify and implement best practices in the field.
